Thin people are not naturally thin

There are some genetically thin people who seem to be able to eat anything they choose, never exercise, never go on any diet plans, and never gain weight. However, if you watch them closely, they eat differently and more sparingly than people who are overweight. There are also people who have simply decided to take the sensible path of adopting a lifestyle of eating carefully and staying fit.  If you want to be among the thin and healthy, you will need to learn how to eat right by applying the weight loss principles taught at The Center for Weight Management, located near including portion control and physical fitness. If you or members of your family are prone to obesity, you can defeat your genetics, but only by working at it every day.

There is no magic diet pill

Prescription weight management medications or appetite suppressants alone are not effective enough to enable you to achieve your ideal weight goal. To reach a desirable, healthy weight and to control future weight gain, you need to learn to apply the tools we teach for long-term success.  We can show you how.

Dieting can, in fact, slow metabolism

Sticking to one of numerous diet plans can, in fact, slow down metabolism. Anytime you cut caloric intake to lose weight, your metabolic rate will slow.  This is a normal physiologic response and one of the evolutionary adaptations that has assured survival in times of famine.  The problem is made worse with diet plans that are deficient in protein, based on the food pyramid. However, a lower carbohydrate diet with an optimum protein intake – a combination of protein-rich foods and protein supplements – will minimize the slowdown, but the slowdown will still occur. Exercise and physical fitness are the antidotes to this problem.

Eating too much protein is not hard on the body

Recent studies have shown that humans cannot eat enough protein to be harmful – the body has a natural governor on protein intake. Protein contains amino acids, which are the building blocks for our body’s muscle and internal organs.  Protein is essential for proper carbohydrate metabolism; if you don’t get enough daily protein, you cannot burn glucose effectively, which can lead to diabetes and other illnesses.

You can gain back weight once you stop dieting

The fact of the matter is that you can gain your weight back after any type of diet or weight loss plan if you do not make some permanent changes concerning eating and exercise.  Initial weight loss is only the first step on what must be a lifetime journey of weight control. To maintain your new weight, you need to adopt the Four Keys we teach for lifelong weight management.
