What? How can this be true? Haven’t we been told we should eat grains, grain products and lots of fruit every day? Yes, we have been told. Large-scale national surveys have indicated most Americans have adopted this advice and eat breads, baked goods, and cereals every day filled with so-called “whole-grain goodness.” The US produces about $20 billion worth of fruit and $20 billion worth of wheat annually; additional evidence of what Americans are buying.
