PATIENT TESTIMONIAL – How I deal with challenges in my life while keeping my weight loss and health goals on track. - By Patricia P.
Since last December, I have lost 27 lbs. and my weight is exactly where I want it to be. I love how I feel, I love how I look, I love wearing a size 4, and I WANT to stay that way. In order to do that and in which I will always do, I follow the LCD (Low Carbohydrate Diet) daily--it has become a great habit and works for me.
Recently, when we went on a 10-day vacation to Maui, I planned to be successful and not gain weight. I continued to follow the LCD as much as I could, but with the umbrella drinks and different fruits and breads being handed to me, I relented and had it anyway. But, I always made sure that I ate at least 30 grams of protein with them for a total of 120 grams of protein per day. I only allowed myself just a little bit of the 'off-limit' foods. I was able to enjoy myself, I didn't feel cheated, and I felt good with my decision that I didn't throw my whole diet to the wind and have to do the VLCD when I got back! Moreover, I increased my physical activity to burn off those extra carbs and calories, depending on what I ate. I walked more, snorkeled, swam, and hiked - all those fun and physical things you can do in Hawaii.
Comment from Paula Hendricks: Just as Patricia discovered, some patients find that the Low Carbohydrate Diet (LCD) becomes the right diet for long-term Maintenance and overall good health. Eating this way on a daily basis promotes satiety, inhibits carbohydrate cravings, and reduces inflammatory reactions in the body that can lead to illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease. If you have ever battled maintaining a healthy weight or tried to reduce carbohydrate cravings unsuccessfully, its probably best to just keep those foods out of your daily diet for good. If you are going to have occasional “off-limit” foods, remember how Patricia survived the challenges while on vacation – she enjoyed herself but didn’t overdo it. She was in control of her diet and that’s where you will be too when following the eating prescription especially designed for you. We are here to help. Thanks Patricia for sharing!
